  • How do I order a storage containers?

  • Do you charge for delivery?
    Yes. Please see our Get A Quote page.
  • Is there a monthly minimum?
    Yes, one month minimum storage fee per container. You don't have to use the container for a month, but we will charge you for the full month.
  • What payment options do I have?
    Pay Online: Go to the home page of this website and in the top right corner click on the Make A Payment button. Auto Pay: Our most popular and convenient method of payment, auto pay allows for automatic, monthly deductions from your debit card or credit card. To set up auto-pay, please call our office with your account information and a customer care representative will be happy to assist you. Phone: Payments can be made over the phone by debit card or credit card. You may pay by Visa Card, Master Card, Discover Card, or American Express. Call us at 801-487-1729.   • How long can I keep the containers?
    Normally we allow our customers to keep the containers for 7 days to load or unload their items. If this is not enough time, we are willing to work with each customers unique situation. Just explain your circumstance to our customer care representative.
  • Where will my containers be stored?
    You can store your containers onsite at your location or we can store your containers at our secure warehouse, which is equipped with controlled gate access, and 24 hour video cameras.
  • How long has PortaBox Storage been in business?
    Since 1999, but our parent company has been in business since 1907.
  • What are your containers made out of?
    Our sturdy and roomy 5’x8’x8’ (WxDxH) wooden containers are equipped with a heavy duty lever action locking systems, heavy duty flooring, and double reinforced doors. Unlike metal storage containers, our wood containers reduce the risk of damage to your items and helps prevent condensation, mold, and mildew from ruining your belongings. While the containers sits on your property each container is covered with a weather resistant cover that protects the container and its contents against the elements.
  • What size containers do you offer and how much will they hold?
    Each PortaBox Storage container will accommodate about a 1 ½ to 2 rooms of furniture or up to 2,000 pounds. They are approximately 320 cubic feet. (Inside Dimension) 4′ 6″ x 7′ 6″ x 7′ 6" (WxDxH) (Outside Dimension) 5’ x 8’ x 8′ 6″ (WxDxH)
  • What is the best way to load my items?
    Packing Furniture Wrap furniture with furniture pads or bubble wrap. When securing padding to your furniture, do not use tape directly on wood or painted surfaces. Remove legs from furniture if possible. Place wing nuts or screws in envelopes or plastic bags and tape to the underside of furniture. Coat fine wood furnishings with wax to protect against scratches. Move dressers with contents in drawers to avoid packing again. Secure drawers to keep from opening during transit. Consider hiring a specialist for packing and loading a piano. Packing Electronics Whenever possible use the original shipping boxes for packing computers, printers, and other electronic items. You might even consider double boxing. Follow manufacturer’s instructions for packing these items when available. Immobilize moving parts and remove all detachable cables and wires. Color code or label wiring for easier reinstallation. Tape electrical cords to back of appliance to prevent plug damage. Wrap each piece with bubble wrap.
  • Do you offer packing materials?

  • What items can I not store in my containers?
    Before you start packing your storage container, it is important to understand which items cannot be stored or moved because they represent a hazard. Below is a list of some of the most common non allowable items: Asphalt Shingles Automobile Oils Car Batteries Charcoal & Charcoal Lighter Liquid Chemistry Sets Cleaning Solvents (All) Combustible Materials Cooking Oils Flammable Solids Fire Extinguisher Fireworks Fertilizer Food of Any Kind (No Food Storage) Gasoline Glycol Kerosene Lamps & Candle Oils Liquid Bleach Lighters Lacquers Matches Nail Polish & Remover Oil-based Paints Paints Paint Thinners Pesticides Pharmaceuticals Pool Chemicals Propane Tanks Rubber Tires Paper Rolls Any other substance or material whose storage or use is regulated or prohibited by federal, state or local law, regulation, rule or ordinance.
  • Can you load or unload my container for me?
    Sorry we do not offer loading or unloading services.
  • Well my belongings shift during transport?
    While our staff is always cautious while transporting belongings, we know that some items can shift during transport, therefore we recommend that you load the storage containers just as you would load a truck. Place heavier items on the floor and then fill in the upper areas with lighter pieces. This will minimize shifting that would have otherwise occurred. As with any move, protective materials (tie down straps, stretch wrap, moving pads, etc.) should also be utilized.
  • Can household appliances be stored or moved in the containers?
    Yes. However, we do have a few very important tips for storing your appliance in the container. Remove water from hoses and internal components. For refrigerators, please also clean the interior and wipe dry. Make sure to drain all water from the holding tank and drain plastic tubing. Also, be sure to clean the defrost pan which is usually located underneath or behind the fridge. Taking these extra steps will prevent mildew and damage to belongings in the container. Always keep appliances upright, specifically refrigerators. Store appliances with the doors ajar to prevent mildew. During transportation, we do recommend keeping the doors closed and using strong tape to ensure doors remain closed during transport. Spray appliances for bugs and allow to dry before placing in the container. This will prevent the introduction of bugs to the container and your belongings.
  • What if I don’t have a lock?
    You can order locks when we confirm your order or purchase them from the driver. We sell Disc Locks (Stainless Steel 2.75") for $9.95 per lock plus tax.
  • What day can you deliver the container?
    We deliver Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please Note: Delivery dates for containers are subject to availability. Dates fill up fast, especially in the summer. Due to this, we ask customers to schedule the delivery and pickup dates of their container at the same time. We need 10 days notice for a delivery or pickup, however we can often accommodate a delivery or pickup requests on shorter notice.
  • When do you drop off the containers?
    We will schedule your delivery date at the time of you ordering your containers. Additionally, the driver will call you 60 minutes before they arrive with your containers.
  • Do I have to be there when the containers is delivered?
    We prefer that the customer is present at the time of delivery to direct the driver where to place the containers. If you absolutely cannot be there, you can explain to the driver over the phone where to place the containers. The containers can be placed in your uncovered driveway, uncovered parking space, on the curb, or in a parking lot.
  • Can I put the containers in the garage or carport?
    For insurance reasons, we're not able to place a containers in your garage or carport. The containers must be placed in your uncovered driveway, uncovered parking space, on the curb, or in a parking lot.
  • How are the containers loaded and off loaded on the truck?
    With our 5'x8'x8' (WxDxH) containers a forklift is used to place containers where you want and keeps the containers level at all time.
  • How many containers can I get at one time?
    Up to four containers can be delivered to you at a time for one delivery charge, and the great thing about PortaBox Storage is that you only pay storage for the containers that you actually end up using. (This only applies to our 5’x8’x8' (WxDxH) containers that are picked up and stored in our secure warehouse or relocated along the Wasatch Front).   • Can you relocate my containers to another state?
    No, I'm sorry we only provide delivery, redelivery or the relocation of your containers along the Wasatch Front.
  • What do I need to do to have my containers redelivered to my home or other location?
    Please call our office at 801-487-1729. And we will be happy to set up a redelivery or the relocation of your containers.
  • What are your monthly container rates?
    Please see our Container Pricing page.
  • Do you have insurance that I can buy?
    We do not sell insurance. We do have Valuation Coverage which is a dollar value protection that may be purchased as additional coverage. Please see our Valuation Coverage page for more information and pricing.
  • When will I receive my monthly statement?
    Your statement will be emailed monthly on the anniversary date of your storage rental agreement date.
  • When will my Debit or Credit Card be charged each month?
    Your debit or credit card will be charged monthly on the anniversary date of your storage rental agreement date.
  • What do I need to do to close my account?
    Call our office at 801-487-1729 and tell us your redelivery city or pickup city, the approximate date you’d like to schedule your redelivery or pickup and bring your account current. We need 10 days notice for closing account redelivery or pickup, however we can often accommodate a redelivery or pickup requests on shorter notice.
  • Who do I contact about billing questions?
    Please contact our accounts receivable department by calling 801-487-1729 for any questions.
  • Can I have my monthly fees automatically charged to my Debit or Credit Card?
    Yes, this is how most customer set up their accounts. Please advise our Customer Care Representative when you call to order the container.
  • Can I access my containers while it is in storage?
    Yes. You can access your stored containers Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Just provide our office with a full 24 hours’ notice (not including Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays) and we will have your containers ready for you. There is a charge of $50.00. When you come in for your appointment don’t forget to bring the keys for your containers locks and your picture ID. Checking in only takes a minute so you can access your containers right away. If you have lost the keys to your locks, you will need to contact a locksmith to remove your locks. We do not provide a lock cutting service. We don’t have the capability of getting rid of your garbage or unwanted items, so please make sure you take everything with you that is not placed back inside your containers. Please Note: If you leave items outside your containers there will be a $100.00 disposal fee. Plus a $25.00 per quarter hour charge to clean up the items.
